Tissue culture is a propagation method carried out in a completely sterile laboratory. Instead of taking a cutting and hoping for the best — individual plant cells are placed on a specialised gel enriched with hormones and nutrients, and grown into a complete new plant. The result: a plant free of disease, free of pests, and genetically exact — a perfect copy of the original.
A TC plant arrives in a sealed tube with gel — because it has spent its entire life in a sterile environment. It has never encountered insects, fungi, bacteria, or regular soil. When it leaves the lab, it needs an acclimatisation period: the gel is removed, the plant is transferred to Fluval Stratum, and gradually introduced to normal air and humidity. This takes 4–8 weeks. At Pink Leaf, every plant has already been professionally acclimated before it reaches you.

Variegation is a genetic mutation that causes leaves to display patches, sectors, or streaks in white, cream, pink, or yellow. It is not dye — it is genetics. In TC plants, variegation is stable and consistent, carried forward into new leaves. The difference between TC and a regular plant: TC was propagated in a laboratory under precise conditions; a regular plant was propagated by a grower using soil and water. TC = safer, rarer, and more stable.
